The essence of quiet quitting is doing your job, but not going “above and beyond” or signing up for additional work that is not paid or rewarded. As one TikTok muses, it is a rejection of the “hustle culture mentality.” This current phenomenon has triggered a variety of reactions (often generational) from support to judgment to compassion to dismay. If there are some parts of your job that you want to “quit,” lean into the core responsibilities where you know you can deliver value and make sure to highlight that value. Focus on outcomes, not input. Resist measuring your value or productivity in terms of hours worked or the effort expended, and instead look to results and outcomes. Seek efficiencies and prioritize so that you are using your time for maximum impact. Cultivate work friendships. Camaraderie and mutual support not only makes the day-to-day more fun and is an antidote to burnout, it helps to have allies if you are trying to institute workplace change.Quiet quitting—the misnamed phenomenon of setting boundaries so that you do what's required but not more–can be a powerful assertion of boundaries or a passive-aggressive maneuver. It's all in the attitude. Some tips for keeping it positive. The recent TikTok trend, widely covered in the media, “quiet quitting” is really not that new at all (cue Office Space the movie). Lack of support drives a quarter of returning parents to quit jobs - HR Magazine

Some 87% of parents find returning to work after having a baby challenging, and 73% report lacking the necessary support, according to a survey released today (26 August) by Growth Spurt, a return-to-work support programme. Natasha Kitson, founder of Maternity Mentor, a platform that supports working parents throughout the parental leave process, told HR magazine: “Too often, parents return from leave to a culture of silence; no structured re-onboarding, unclear expectations or lack of flexibility.” · Read more: Parental leave should reflect the diversity of today’s workforce · Returning parents are expected to "jump back into the workforce as if they haven’t just had a baby," and quite often, back to their role that hasn’t been appropriately covered in their absence, Kitson explained. The survey also highlighted the potential benefits of improved support structures. A substantial 71% of respondents believed that better support would have increased their productivity, while 64% stated it would have made them more likely to remain in their positions. In the report, Joeli Brearley, founder of Growth Spurt and a charity working to end the motherhood penalty, Pregnant Then Screwed, emphasised the urgency of addressing this issue: “This is not just a compassionate issue; it’s a business-critical one. Employers must recognise that effective return-to-work support is essential for driving productivity and retaining talent.”The survey, including 5,329 parents who returned to work within the last three years, found that one in four parents (26%) who didn’t receive the support they needed left their job after returning.
